Lucid Voxelations

November 3rd through 14th, 2025

Location: VISER, Nancy Thompson Learning Commons, Kean University

Nov. 7: 3:30–4:30pm, Opening Reception

About the Exhibition:

In Lucid Voxelations, I transform recorded journeys through landscapes I have encountered into projected animations and corresponding 3D-printed forms.

Working from video captured from my point of view, I select bounded regions of light, sky, and landscape at specific moments, then extend or connect those shapes across time to construct three-dimensional forms.

The resulting works explore perception, attention, and lived time, using recorded experience as both visual source and formal constraint. Through moving imagery and physical form, fleeting moments become spatial artifacts that can be revisited and shared.

This exhibition was supported by the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons through the use of its specialized VISER space and the assistance of its expert staff. Johnston completed this exhibition as part of his semester sabbatical recommended by President Repollet and awarded by the Kean University Board of Trustees.
